All prospective members of the orchestra must audition for entry. You will need to complete an audition form before attending. However, before completing the form, please contact Julian Hardwick (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) to find out whether there is a space available for your instrument as some of our sections are currently full.

We organise a 'Taster Day' each term which allows interested potential players to experience the orchestra for themselves and then decide whether they would like to audition. To find out the date of the next Taster Day, please follow the link to the Concerts and Events page.

Auditions take place at the orchestra’s home, St Paul’s Community Centre in Wimbledon at the start of each term and usually on Sunday afternoons. At the audition you will be asked to play two contrasting pieces of music, unaccompanied and you may also be asked to do some sight reading. Please note that playing from photocopied music is NOT permitted.

The audition will make an assessment of which orchestra is most suitable for your standard of playing, but as a general rule we suggest a minimum of Grade 7 for prospective members of the Main Orchestra, and Grade 4 for the Training Orchestra. This may vary according to the instrument you play.
