The music on tour is a key element and in Spain we had the opportunity to indulge in compositions native to Spain and great works brought over from England. Elgar’s ‘Enigma Variations’ were a favourite among orchestra members as well as his ‘Pomp and Circumstance March’ making a rousing encore in each concert. We were also able to experience a deeper side to the cultural history of the Catalonian region through working with soloist Daniel Benn in Pablo Casals’ ‘Song of the Birds’ and it was astonishing to see the emotions it evoked on the local audience.  As well as working hard playing and preparing for concerts, Stoneleigh tours are just as much about seeing the local culture, having fun and relaxing. The tour would not be complete without the day trip to the nearest beach or all the sightseeing opportunities. We enjoyed visiting many places such as the amazing Dali Museum. The town we stayed in, Figueres, was a beautiful city and a wonderful place to stay. Every concert gave us a chance to see Spain and experience their culture; we had a great time.
